He started playing Keyboards at his local school and in college bands and in college, he studied Physics and later graduated from the Cochin University of Science and Technology with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering.<\/p>\n
Although he already finished his science studies, Appu still felt the urge to study his musical passions, and said,<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter graduation, I wanted to have a music career and there was no better place than Los Angeles. After hearing about MI from a friend and contacting MI online, my admissions rep helped me make the best decision of my life.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Appu moved to the Los Angeles in 2005 and enrolled in the Audio Engineering program at Musicians Institute. He graduated with the Outstanding Academic Achievement award and continued to the Keyboard Technology program, and eventually ended his studies with a Bachelor’s in Keyboard performance. <\/p>\n
Some of Appu\u2019s notable gigs post graduation include arranging synth strings and piano alongside songwriters Tracklacers on Christina Aguilera\u2019s album, Lotus, for the song \u201cArmy of Me.\u201d He was also composer\/songwriter for the Jordin Sparks\u2019 song \u201cChristmas Time To Me\u201d from the Best Man Holiday soundtrack. He helped write the song \u201cIt\u2019s Me\u201d for South Korean boyband, Wanna One, which served as theme song for hit reality show, Produce 101 Season 2. Other notable collaborations of his include The Jacksons, Billy Ray Cyrus, Eastwest Studios, Laura Bell Bundy, INNA, Eleni Foureira (EMI Greece), Claude Schnel (Dio), Shea Taylor (Roc Nation), Renato Neto (Prince), just to name a few. <\/p>\n
Along with his prolific music career, Appu started teaching in MI\u2019s Keyboard and Independent Artist programs in 2009 and stayed on staff until 2015. Appu said of his career and time as a student at MI,<\/p>\n
\u201cTo this day I work with my Musician, Engineer, A&R and Publisher friends who all shared MI classes with me. Coming from India in 2005 not knowing a single soul in the business, MI became my gateway to the international music scene…never could have done any of this without being there.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
