On January 10, 2023, legendary guitarist Jeff Beck passed away at 78 after a sudden illness.<\/a> As expected, the news quickly spread around the music and entertainment world, and the tributes began to flood in for the guitarist many considered as one of the best. He rose to prominence as a member of the rock band the Yardbirds, and afterwards founded and fronted the Jeff Beck Group and Beck, Bogert & Appice. He became known for his style focusing on an innovative sound, and his releases spanned genres and styles ranging from blues rock, hard rock, jazz fusion and a blend of guitar-rock and electronica.<\/p>\n

Rock guitar is very much the foundation of Musicians Institute’s DNA, and throughout the years, many fellow legends have walked through these halls. Beck was undoubtedly a huge inspiration to many of our students, faculty and alumni, and we’ve gathered a few tributes to Beck from MI faculty to honor his life and talents. Rest in peace!<\/p>\n

“Jeff Beck and Ritchie Blackmore are my two biggest influences when it comes to rock guitar. I\u2019m sure everyone knows this but it\u2019s worth repeating – no other rock guitarist from that era can play half as good as they used to, and some of them are dead, mostly due to substance abuse. Jeff stayed away from all that and continued to grow, playing even better in his old age than he did in his youth. He\u2019s a role model for all of us and he was capable of delivering much more great music if this hadn\u2019t happened.”<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
